Do you want to make the switch to a whole food and clean eating lifestyle and STICK WITH IT for good? This series is for you.
For many people, making a lifestyle change can be completely overwhelming, and if they do manage to do it they have trouble with sticking with it over the long term.
Notice I say lifestyle change, and not a diet. This advice is for people wanting to change their health forever and commit to leading a healthy lifestyle. If you want to see long term results, you can’t think of eating well as temporary or short term. You can start this today and see results within weeks, but as soon as you revert back so will the health problems.
This is Part One in the How to Become a Whole Food for Life series.
Keep an eye for Part Two next Tuesday.
Part One: Make Small Changes
It’s hard to completely flip your lifestyle upside down overnight. And it’s just likely to overwhelm you and put pressure on you until you cave in and go back to the junk food that is within reach and seemingly easier.
So instead, try to make small changes over time. There is a lot to re-learn about food and health. Theres conflicting information about everything out there, and so many different whole food ‘diets’ it will make your head spin. Take your time, do your research and decide what the best options are for you.
Here are some healthy switching options to help you get started today:
Drink a glass of carton orange juice every morning? Try replacing it with freshly squeezed oranges. Then start to dilute with more water every day.
If you don’t eat breakfast at all, start drinking green smoothies.
Like chocolate milkshakes? Try a superfood cacao milkshake.
Eat a lot of rice? Try replacing it with quinoa.
There is always improvements you can make with your food, and you should view it as something you will be learning about and evolving for a long time. I’ve been on this journey for over 2 years now, and still learn something I can do better every week.
I love this quote from Jon Gabriel in the Hungry for Change documentary:
“Don’t turn it into a diet. Keep focusing on adding!”
Which means, add as many nutrient dense foods into your diet as you can, and eventually there won’t be room for anything else. This also takes the focus off of what you can’t eat and focuses on what you CAN eat, which is hugely important for your mind set.
The more you focus on what you can’t eat, the more you’ll want it. That’s why diets don’t work.
The Hungry for Change documentary is well worth a watch and will definitely help you get started on (or continue) this journey. Lots of tips and information for those new to this area.
