5 must read books

I go through fazes of reading where I can go through a few books in a couple of weeks, but then I won’t read anything for 3 months! Lately I have definitely been on a reading binge. I think it has something to do with the 2-5 coffee enemas I’m doing a day where I have a good 20 minutes to read for each enema. I’m actually really loving it!

I have been just blown away with some books I’ve been reading. Once you’ve been researching health for a few years, you start to hear the same things over and over again and start thinking there’s nothing new to learn – but some of these books made me realise there’s always something new to learn! My favourite has been The Gerson Therapy, some of the information inside of it just blew me away, and helped me make complete sense of things I’ve been trying to figure out for the last 2 years – more on that below.

Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Juices by Norman Walker

This book may be small, but the information inside it is profound. This book was published in 1970, and some of the information is just starting to be talked about in the nutrition world today. Norman Walker is the inventor of the Norwalk juicer, the best juicer on the market.

If you are interested in juicing this book goes into great detail about it. Including what different juice combinations are good for, as well as a section on which juices will help with specific diseases.

I have underlined this book like crazy and it’s got dog ears every few pages. I am looking forward to re-reading this.

The Gerson Therapy by Charlotte Gerson and Morton Walker

As I said, this book is just mind blowing.

At the moment I am following the Gerson diet as closely as I feel is best for me, and have been for about 3 months now. This includes 13 juices a day, 2 – 5 coffee enemas (depending on how sick I’m feeling that day), the Gerson supplements, tons of organic produce and salads, and hippocrates soup. I don’t follow it exactly, I still eat some nuts, seeds, avocados etc.

The juices and coffee enemas have had a profound impact on my health. My latest tests with the naturopath are showing some exciting improvement. Before I started the Gerson therapy, I had no movement in my nutrition absorption or toxicity levels in over a year (and probably another year before that, before I started being tested), so the fact that they are finally going in the right direction is like a huge sigh of relief for me – I finally feel like I’m on the right track.

I had my first bad day in a long time the other day (I have a parasite infection at the moment), and it reminded me of how shitty I used to feel most of the time not that long ago. When you’re improving slowly you don’t really realise how far you’ve come, but my health has improved dramatically this year. No more headaches, fogginess, nausea. No more pain from inflammation. I rarely get stomach pains or different aches through my body. I used to get these sudden crippling pains in my hands and feet, where I would drop whatever I was holding – this is becoming more and more rare. So basically, I’m feeling awesome and kicking ass on my to do list these days! This ebook I’ve been working on for a while now is finally getting close to being finished – that says a lot in itself!

I think results speak for themselves and I will continue eating this way until I feel like I need to change, my body is saying it likes this way of eating and I’m listening.

Make Peace With Your Plate by Jess Ainscough

Jess’s website is my favourite. I love her daily emails/blog posts, she is always so on point, insightful and knows exactly what I need to hear at that time! I saw her in Brisbane on her national tour, and she is exactly what you think she would be – funny, real, authentic and hilariously Australian, and her book is no different. Check out her blog and make sure you sign up to get her email updates, you will be thanking me!

Crazy Sexy Diet by Kris Carr

I just love the way Kris writes – it’s funny, engaging and makes you feel like you’re a friend who she’s writing a letter to. The book is the manual for changing your lifestyle – everything you need to know is in there.

Beauty Detox Foods by Kimberly Snyder

Kimberly Snyder is just glowing, and that alone makes you want to eat like she does! She is a celebrity nutritionist, which I think is good because hopefully this book will reach people who follow celeb diets trying to loose weight – books like this on eating for health, not weight desperately need to find their way into yo-yo dieters hands. I will say one thing I didn’t love about this book is that it focused on particular nutrients in foods (not surprising since she is a nutritionist), it’s not necessarily a bad thing but I generally don’t like when people analyse micro-nutrients like that, and think instead it’s much simpler to just eat a varying diet of whole food!

What good books have you read lately? Have you ready any of the above books and what did you think?
